My name is Mike, known elsewhere as B5160-R. I’m 25 and reside in H-Town, Denmark. I’m an amateur photographer and an “urban explorer”. I only started taking photographs on “a higher level” in january 2011, but I’ve been exploring most of my life - ever since I came across my first “do don’t enter” sign…
Derelict buildings has always struck a chord in me. Curiosity and an explorers mindset is what drives me to seek out locations that most people just shrug of as eyesores in the scenery. The dense, sometimes overwhelming, sense of isolation and the crack in time some buildings possess is what I find engrossing. Also the sense of being in a place you’re not supposed to be, appeals to my inner thirteen year old self.
As my interest in “urban exploration” grew and I needing an excuse to visit these types of locations - the “no, sir, I just enjoy looking at abandoned houses, I’m not a terrorist” was growing kind of old - so I picked up my first DLSR. People are much more acceptive about a guy with a camera as an excuse for trespassing. I also felt a need to document these places that aren’t exactly getting any attention. I’d been interested in photography for a long time as well and so connecting the two was a no-brainer. There’s an esthetic beauty in the decay and decline that works very well in photography and which I find very appealing.
I made this blog because I felt I needed an outlet, something to do in between exploring and because I love browsing other peoples UE sites. I also hope to find equal minded people - I know there’s quite a few.
